This $63 million design build project named the William B. McLean Laboratory is the largest Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) construction project at China Lake, CA. This new technology center is the hub of the Navy’s integrated Weapons & Armament Research, Development, Acquisition, Test, and Evaluation activities.
CBI’s $6.48 million Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E) awarded contract involved 14 months of planning, design, and specifications review with the Design Build Contractor—Barnhart Balfour Beatty, the Navy team, the Architect—KMA, and the NAVFAC Design team. This NAWS project had 19 phases over a nine month delivery and installation schedule, which involved 30+ furniture and equipment manufacturers, and over (60) fifty-three foot trailers of product.
The design and construction of this new technology center incorporated sustainable design principles and energy conservation practices earning LEED Gold Certification. The chosen interior solutions of 506 Allsteel workstations, 140 Allsteel and Gunlocke private offices, 60 DIRTT modular wall offices, several conference and training rooms, collaborative/lounge areas, laboratories, kitchens, filing rooms, and numerous ancillary and outdoor products completed this state-of-the-art technology center. CBI took great pride in participating in this U.S. Military project.
